Disabled Motoring UK
Disabled Motoring UK is the charity for disabled drivers, passengers & Blue Badge holders. In April 2011 we changed our name from Mobilise to Disabled Motoring UK to better reflect the people we campaign for.
Disabled Motoring UK is a campaigning charity for disabled drivers, passengers and Blue Badge holders. We lobby government & businesses across the UK in order to improve parking, refuelling and access provision for disabled people, so that they can access the goods and services that they need.
Disabled Motoring UK is not just an organisation for drivers. We also campaign for and support passengers, scooter and wheelchair users, families and carers.
Our information officers can answer your questions about accessible parking, vehicle adaptations, congestion charging and other issues that affect our members.
Our monthly magazine, Disabled Motoring, includes information on our current campaigns, the latest news and reviews of vehicles, scooters and mobility aids as well as features on everything from buying an accessible holiday home to wheelchair rambling. The magazine is free to members, who also benefit from a wide range of concessions and our confidential casework service.
Disabled Motoring UK is currently campaigning on a wide range of issues that affect disabled people, including the abuse of disabled parking bays, the planned reform of the Blue Badge Scheme, accessibility of city centres and the lack of free parking at healthcare facilities.
Together with our partners we run the Baywatch campaign, which surveys the abuse of disabled parking spaces across the UK and encourages supermarkets and other parking providers to improve their provision and enforcement of Blue Badge bays. You can find out more information in our Campaigns section.
Disabled Motoring UK campaigns on behalf of all disabled motorists, passengers and Blue Badge holders. We represent their interests at both local and national levels, and engage with government and industry to ensure that the voice of disabled people is heard.
Disabled Motoring UK is the only UK charity that campaigns on behalf of disabled people in this way. Without us and our parent charities the Disabled Drivers’ Association and the Disabled Drivers’ Motor Club, there would be no Blue Badge scheme, no Motability cars, and no mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to help disabled people defray some of the extra travel and transport costs that they incur.
